MY JEWELRY STORY
In 2009, I was living in China and working for the Shanghai Expo 2010 as the Director of VIP Relations.
China is known for pearls and their exciting pearl markets. Early on I had visited a few markets and found some interesting pieces but it wasn't until the Expo ended and I had the time to return to the markets and truly explore the beauty of pearls.
My love of all things pearl started with seeing so many different pieces, shapes, and sizes and being able to create some ideas and send them to my friends and family, 'Look what I made'. Everyone also wanted what I designed and made. So I kept returning to the markets and hooked up a long-lasting friendship with Lina at one of the markets.
One day I discovered these cool semi-precious beads (not wood) that I worked with using fresh-water pearls. That was my 'aha' moment. I sent those around to my friends and family, and everyone wanted them, a bracelet, and a necklace. They have become my signature pieces and look because I use them to layer with all my necklaces and bracelets. From then on, and with the help of Lina, I began to source and make all my jewelry using both semi-precious stones and my hand-picked freshwater pearls. My gems and stones come from all over the world and many are hand-cut for my designs. My love of pearls has taken me to the source of freshwater pearls, as I journey several times a year to go out to the locations to hand-pick my pearls to use in my necklaces, bracelets, and earrings.
All my designs consist of semi-precious stones, cut gemstones, and freshwater pearls. Other than a few designs incorporating shell pearls, all my pearls are natural fresh water. I use a lot of beautiful labradorite and moonstone, as well as aquamarine, amethyst, citrine, black onyx, and other sought-after gems. I compliment many of my designs with decor pieces and shiny 'bling' and often use sterling silver charms that convey a Chinese flair and unique message, such as 'friendship', 'money', and 'good luck’. And as often as available my metals are 14kt gold-filled and sterling silver, and all my ear wires are hand-made, as well as using natural resources, suede, leather, and such in my pieces. No pearl is turned away from becoming a beautiful piece of jewelry
