I retired in 2017 and took a trip with my daughter to France. We spent hours wandering through art museums, Monet’s home, and gardens, and soaking in the rich art history of France. One rainy afternoon we were offered an opportunity to take an art class. When I returned home, my husband found the small painting I worked on in the class, and he loved it! A professional artist had just moved into our neighborhood and wanted to start

teaching art to small groups. I signed up and my art journey began. 

I had no idea I had any interest or talent. I always loved color and color combinations, but never associated that with art or painting. When I started art classes, I took off fast and within six months I was ready to move into landscape oil painting. Just as I was ready for my next step, I found a wonderful artist who became my teacher/mentor. Her landscape oil paintings are incredible, and I am grateful for the five years we spent together.

I have always loved sunrises and sunsets, landscapes and seascapes, trees and flowers, and the beauty of God’s creation. Water reflections have always been breathtaking to me, and I enjoy painting the dancing reflections off the water’s surface. Vibrance of color bursts forth in sunrises and sunsets. Flowers break out in brilliant reds, oranges, pinks, whites, purples, and greens. I can still remember how mesmerized I was with trees as a child and to this day, I am still fascinated with trees.

Watching my favorite things evolve on a canvas brings great joy.  I love the masterpieces of the French Impressionists. Pointillism fascinates me, and I am beginning to see beauty in abstract art. Painting has heightened my ability to see beauty all around me.
