Dark in hue with smoky, woodsy notes, saw palmetto honey holds up to strong flavors, making it a perfect addition to cheese and charcuterie boards. Sourced from all over the southeast including Florida, it is the oldest known honey in the sunshine state. The slow-growing saw palmettos take at least a hundred years to produce enough nectar to entice the honey bees.
Savannah Bee Company was founded by beekeeper Ted Dennard in Savannah, Georgia. Ted learned beekeeping from a legendary beekeeper named Roy Hightower and has built a company dedicated to exceptional honey from carefully managed apiaries across the American South and beyond. This is the kind of product that defines what The Ambrosian Pantry is about.
Pairs with: Tea, toast, baking, cheese boards, marinades, or as nature's sweetener.
Founder’s Notes - Ted Dennard
“For as long as I can remember I’ve had a connection to bees. From being introduced to beekeeping at 11 years old, to working for no money with an old beekeeper in high school, I grew up learning how important these little creatures are. After time in the Peace Corps, working with hundreds of beekeepers and teaching beekeeping in schools, I returned to Georgia, right where I started my honey journey. It was here I found myself searching for new ways to share the magic of bees and honey.
My original mission with Savannah Bee Company was to sell the best honeybee products while educating people about the fascinating world of bees. I didn’t know anyone who did that sort of thing—combining education and business. I was trying to come up with the best way to introduce customers to bees and quality honey properly. I figured that if people only knew the process, they would learn to love the bees and their products as much as I do.
There was also a conscious effort to elevate the honey world - bringing honey out of the plastic bears and into beautiful bottles, and into a place where honey and bees were truly appreciated. That was in 1999, and since then we’ve worked hard to make the dream of Savannah Bee Company into reality.
For 20 years we’ve sourced the purest honey from the finest beekeepers around the world - folks that I know by name and trust to provide the highest quality. From our conscientious packaging to our experiential retail stores, and our non-profit The Bee Cause Project, everything we do is to celebrate the incredible work of bees and the natural beauty they create. Our goal is to keep growing and learning and sharing, giving our voice to the bees with every bottle of honey.”
